Third generation YP (2014-2024) / Kia Sedona YP Service Manual / Restraint / SRSCM / Side Impact Sensor (SIS) Repair procedures

Removal
Pressure Side Impact Sensor (P-SIS)

•
Removal of the airbag must be performed according to the precautions/procedures described previously.
•
Before disconnecting the side impact sensor connector(s), disconnect the side airbag connector(s).
•
Do not turn the ignition switch ON nor connect the battery cable while replacing the front impact sensor.
1.
Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait for at least 30 seconds before beginning to work.
2.
Remove the front door trim.
(Refer to Body - "Front door trim")
3.
Disconnect the pressure side impact sensor (A) connector and remove the pressure side impact sensor mounting screws.

Rear Side Impact Sensor
1.
Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait for at least 30 seconds before beginning to work.
2.
Remove the luggage side trim.
(Refer to Body - " Luggage side trim")
3.
Disconnect the rear side impact sensor connector.

4.
Loosen the rear side impact sensor mounting bolt and then remove the rear side impact sensor (A).
Installation
Pressure Side Impact Sensor
1.
Install a new pressure side impact sensor (A) with screws, and then connect the pressure side impact sensor connector.

Tightening torque :
3.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.4 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)

•
Use the specified screws only.
2.
Install the front door trim.
(Refer to Body - "Front door trim")
3.
Reconnect the battery negative cable.
4.
After installing the pressure side impact sensor, confirm proper system operation:
•
Turn the ignition switch ON; the SRS indicator light should be turned on for about six seconds and then go off.

•
Comply with the specified tightening torque and use only the specified tool to prevent damaging the Pressure-Side Impact Sensors (P-SIS) or rotating the POP-NUT.
•
Problems may arise in the durability of P-SIS or impact sensing performance may decrease if POP-NUT is rotated.
•
The door module must not be transformed because SRSCM judges a impact through the pressure sensor in the door module.
Rear Side Impact Sensor

•
Do not turn the ignition switch ON nor connect the battery cable while replacing the front impact sensor.
1.
Install the new rear side impact sensor with a bolt and then connect the rear side impact sensor connector.

Tightening torque:
6.8 ~ 9.2 N.m (0.7 ~ 0.94 kgf.m, 5.0 ~ 6.8 lb-ft)

2.
Install the luggage side trim.
(Refer to Body - " Luggage side trim")
3.
Reconnect the battery negative cable.
4.
After installing the Side Impact Sensor, confirm proper system operation:
