Removal

Set the front tires straight-ahead before removing the steering wheel.

If the steering wheel and the front tires are not set straight ahead together, the number of circulation of steering wheel may be affected or the cable inside the clock spring may be damaged.

Disconnect the battery negative cable.

After disconnecting the battery negative cable, wait for at least thirty seconds.

3.	With the steering wheel centered, insert a 6 inch (5mm) driver (A) into the small hole on the bottom of the steering wheel (B) first by pushing the internal clip until air bag comes loose, and then proceed with the side holes to remove the air bag as shown on (C and D).

4.	Align the front wheel toward the front.

5.	Remove the wiring fixing clip (C) and disconnect the horn connector (A).

Release the connector locking pin, and then disconnect the driver airbag module connector (B).

The removed airbag module should be stored in a clean, dry place with the pad cover facing up.

7.	Remove the steering wheel and steering wheel column shroud. (Refer to the Steering System group- Steering Column and Shaft)

8.	Disconnect the clock spring and horn connector, then remove the clock spring.

Inspection

Driver Airbag (DAB)

If any improper parts are found during the following inspection, replace the airbag module with a new one.

Never attempt to measure the circuit resistance of the airbag module (squib) even if you are using the specified tester. If the circuit resistance is measured with a tester, accidental airbag deployment will result in serious personal injury.

1.	Check pad cover for dents, cracks or deformities.

2.	Check the airbag module for denting, cracking or deformities.

3.	Check hooks and connectors for damage, terminals for deformities, and harness for binds.

4.	Check airbag inflator case for dents, cracks or deformities.

5.	Install the airbag module to the steering wheel to check for fit or alignment with the wheel.

Clock Spring

1.	If, as a result of the following checks, even one abnormality is discovered, replace the clock spring with a new one.

2.	Check connectors and protective tube for damage, and terminals for deformities.

Installation

Set the front tires straight-ahead before assembling the steering wheel.

If the steering wheel and the front tires are not set straight ahead together, the number of circulation of steering wheel may be affected or the cable inside the clock spring may be damaged.

Disconnect the battery negative cable.

After disconnecting the battery negative cable, wait for at least thirty seconds.

Set the clock spring in center before assembling it to a steering wheel.

(1)	Turn the clock spring clockwise or counter clockwise until it is locked in center automatically with a clicking sound.

(2)	Check the orange indicater in the clock spring.

4.	Connect the clock spring harness connector and horn harness connector to the clock spring.

5.	Install the steering wheel column cover and the steering wheel. (Refer to the Steering System group- Steering Column and Shaft)

6.	Connect the Driver Airbag (DAB) module connector, and then install the Driver Airbag (DAB) module on the steering wheel.

7.	Connect the battery negative cable.

After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation.

–	Turn the ignition switch ON; the SRS indicator light should be turned on for about six seconds and then go off.

–	Make sure that horn works.
